XLOOKUP Practice Template-001 [By DPAB Prabhakar] [Post-003]

 



Hello Friends,

Welcome to my Blog Post, on XLOOKUP Practice Template - 001.

I am Prabhakar, the Author of this Post as well as Author of the YouTube Channel "DPAB".

    If you are unable to use VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP in your Data, then the right choice is XLOOKUP, which works irrespective of the position of the column in which the "lookup_value" is available,

Why XLOOKUP instead of VLOOKUP?

    CONDITION to go for VLOOKUP :  In VLOOKUP the column having the "lookup_value" should be in the left most of the "table_array" you select; that is it should be the first column and the column having the required answer data should be in the right side of it.

If this condition is failed, XLOOKUP is the best choice. In fact XLOOKUP can be used instead of VLOOKUP whether above Condition is met or not.

Why XLOOKUP instead of HLOOKUP?

    CONDITION to go for HLOOKUP:  In HLOOKUP the Row having the "lookup_value" should be the top most row of the "table_array" you select; that is it should be the first Row and the Row having the required answer data should be below it.

If this condition is failed, XLOOKUP is the best choice. In fact XLOOKUP can be used instead of HLOOKUP whether above Condition is met or not.

IMPORTANT NOTE before DOWNLOAD: Use MICROSOFT EDGE Browser [and NOT Google Chrome]. Because, Google will convert Excel sheet as Google Sheets and Features applied inside the Excel Sheet, may be removed by Google Sheets, and the file may not work, as per the requirements.

Step1: Understand from the "Worked Example" from the sheets as listed below

Worked Example Sheet1: "Task1-No Duplicate" - When the column having the "lookup_value" has NO DUPLICATE values

Worked Example Sheet2: "Task2-Duplicate" - When the column having the "lookup_value" has DUPLICATES

Step2: Use the sheet "UNIQUE Column Creation" to understand how the "Unique ID" column is created to get the "New column having 'lookup_values' with Unique Values"

Step3: Practice from below sheets

Practice Sheet1: "Practice_Task1-No Duplicate" - When the column having the "lookup_value" has NO DUPLICATE values

Practice Sheet2: "Practice_Task2-Duplicate" - When the column having the "lookup_value" has DUPLICATES
